What is the difference between TESOL, TEFL, ESL?

TESOL: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
TEFL: Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
ESL: English as a Second Language.

How many students do you take on each course?

We limit our course to 12 people, because the point is to help you learn, not stuff as many students as possible in one room.

What type of students do you have?

There's no fixed "type" of TEFL students, although it often attracts a younger crowd who've not yet started their careers, and are not sure what they want to do. However, with the current crisis, this has opened up a lot, and the variety of students has opened up.

What does your TEFL course cover?

Our TEFL course covers everything you need to become a successful English teacher. This includes classroom management, teaching grammar, feedback.

Should I study before I start the course?

We won't throw you out of the course if you don't study beforehand, but since you are paying for this, we do recommend you brush up on a few things before you get here - this helps you get the most of the course. We also offer a pre-study course at a special price.

Do I need any teaching experience?

No, you get your teaching experience with us

What is the application procedure?

Step 1 - fill in the application form
Step 2 - we will contact you to arrange an interview, and within a few days you will know if you have been accepted
Step 3 - the deposit must be paid
Step 4 - written confirmation of your place will be sent to you
Step 5 - the outstanding balance must be paid one month before the course start date

How do you do the interview?

The interview process is very simple and is mostly about making sure that you are aware of what it all involves, and to make sure you are committed to completing it. There will be some questions about language and classroom situations, but we're not trying to catch you out, rather to identify people's level and work with that.

Who can study TEFL?

The TEFL course is for anyone who is open to a new challenge and who would like to experience something new and different. Essentially, teaching is a great way to travel the world and meet people - if that something you think would interest you, teaching English language is your thing!

How much work does the course involve?

We manage to put a great deal of content into the course, and you are expected to do extra work in your own time. It's difficult to put a number on these things, as it comes down to individual learning patterns and dedication. However, we know that there has to be some fun involved in the course, and we arrange trips to the surrounding areas, including the Budweiser brewery, and some outdoor activities depending on season.

Will I learn English grammar?

In a way, yes, since an increased awareness is necessary in order to teach anything. But there shouldn't be too many surprises for you (which is why we recommend reading up on a few things before coming here or taking our free grammar introduction).

Do you offer a discount if we come as a group?

Absolutely - let us know how many you are, and we can work out a price. If you want to recruit someone else to join, we can offer up to 20%. This also applies to couples.

Do you have any accommodation for couples?

Yes - just let us know before you arrive, and we will sort something out.

There are so many TEFL courses - which one should I choose?

There are a few things that serious courses should offer. Here are some of the main points. Although Trinity and Cambridge carry the most weight internationally, the truth is that most language schools want someone who is confident enough to teach, not the "right" paper. Make sure you get enough experience during the course, so you feel that you are able to teach.

Can I get a job without a TEFL certificate?

Yes, but it usually limits the number of hours you can get, and you will be in the bracket of "unqualified teacher". Native speakers are not as uncommon as they used to be, so it just depends on where you want to teach. Some countries are more desperate than others.

Will I be able to teach by the end of the course?

Yes. This is why we offer more practical teaching than other schools. Although we feel our students are able to teach when they finish, the main point is that you feel able to teach. Real experience is the only thing that can you give this confidence.

Will you help me settle in?

Of course. We will arrange for help when you arrive, give you a guided tour of the city, as well as arranging nights out and outdoor activities.
